Best Practices
- Adobe Garamond Pro is the official university serif font; most txstate.edu subdomains have access to this font by default.
- Use ornamentally, such as in departmental signatures, block quotes and top-level headers.
- Use educated quotes.
- Consider slight letter spacing (i.e., 1px) for readability at smaller type sizes.
Avoid
- Avoid use as standard paragraph text, except for sites like online magazines or sites with limited, predictable, brochure-driven copy.
- Avoid using type size smaller than 18px.
- Avoid all-caps in headers, and generally with our typefaces; leverage boldfacing and italics for emphasis instead.

Best Practices
- Univers is the official university sans-serif font; most txstate.edu subdomains have access to this font by default.
- Extremely diverse, efficient and legible, use liberally on websites for paragraph text and primary content.
- Consider slight letter spacing (i.e., 1px) and slight word spacing (i.e., 1-2px) when using all caps, especially with heavier weights or smaller font sizes.
- Condensed versions are not in use across most Texas State web properties, but are approved for use. Condensed type works best for headers.
Avoid
- Avoid using the 45 Light typeface at very small sizes (i.e., 12px or less).
- Avoid all-caps in headers, and generally with our typefaces; leverage boldfacing and italics for emphasis instead.
Font Awesome
Best Practices
- Font Awesome is an open source library of over 600 vector icons that are easily deployed. They can be sized and colored with CSS just like typographic fonts.
- Most txstate.edu websites have Font Awesome built in and ready to use.
- Using icons as links is acceptable.
- Icons should augment text, not replace it entirely. For social media, it is generally acceptable to use an icon by itself.
- Utilize Font Awesome's accessibility features.
Avoid
- Do not use a brand icon for any reason other than to represent the company or product it refers to.
